The spirit of Jezebel

As a prophet/prophetess this is one of the main spirits that will try to give you problems. The spirit of Jezebel is a spirit that wants absolute control, and like the original person it was named after, it wants the authority of the king (God's appointed leadership), but it doesn't want the responsibility. This spirit can operate through either sex, and it finds a place most, in the hearts of those who have been abused or abandoned by a harmful, selfish authority figure.The victim makes a vow in their hearts, that from now on, "they" will be in control of all authority around them, so that "they" cannot be harmed again. God wants us to trust Him through all authority He places in our lives, even though those authorities may make mistakes, and possibly mistreat us.

There are usually three reasons why people under the influence of a Jezebel spirit may try to control a leader;

1.Power- Some people want the power a leader has over people, but they don't want to take the heat for the decisions. They want to direct, but not carry the responsibility.

2. Protection- Like I mentioned earlier, some people have been abused by authority, (usually an abusive parent originally), so they try to control a leader through serving, flattery, or witchcraft (spiritual manipulation/intimidation), so that the leader will not make any decisions unless it meets the controllers approval. They feel this keeps them safe.

3. Procurement- Someone will try to control a leader to get what they want. They figure, if they are the leaders #1, then they will get the best and biggest piece of the pie, when it is sliced up. They can also do this by filling a big need, flattery, or sexual enticements.

The spirit of Jezebel will try to control the leadership of a group by coming in and being the "most anointed", and "most knowledgeable" person around. They may constantly second guess the leaders choices both to the leaders face, and behind their back. They do this to create doubt, so that people accept only the controllers choices as "Gods wisdom". They try to direct the leadership indirectly, and if the leader does not use their choice, they try to punish them through veiled criticism, coolness, threats, or malicious gossip. It feels like a constant spiritual battle of the wills, that can drain you of strength.

God abhors, and forbids us to try to take control of leadership that He has clearly appointed to someone else. Look what happened to Miriam and Aaron when they came against Moses.

NU 12:1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. 2 "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this.

NU 12:3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)

NU 12:4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came out. 5 Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward, 6 he said, "Listen to my words: "When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. 7 But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. 8 With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?" 9 The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them. 10 When the cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam--leprous, like snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy; 11 and he said to Moses, "Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed. 12 Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother's womb with its flesh half eaten away."

All of us, at one time or another have rebelled so to speak, against what we perceived was unfair leadership, but the spirit of Jezebel is more than that, it wants to control the spiritual direction of a gathering, it will do whatever is necessary to have a position of authority to control what happens. It does this to attempt to keep the Holy Spirit from being in control. It tries to present a false anointing, to try to prevent the real anointing.

This spirit should not be tolerated, this is what Jesus said about it;

REV 2:20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. 24 Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan's so-called deep secrets (I will not impose any other burden on you): 25 Only hold on to what you have until I come.

Don't feel bad if you are one of these people that have been duped by this cunning, cowardly spirit, many people in the prophetic have had a problem with this spirit. Just allow the Holy Spirit to lead you through a prayer of forgiving every authority in your life that you have carried resentment against. Understand that although humans will make mistakes, and sometimes do things that are harmful to us, that God is ultimately in control, and will protect us and meet our needs as we pray and trust Him. We must not try to manipulate or intimidate our way around a leader. Obviously we never obey a leader that contradicts Gods commands, but all things should be entrusted into Gods hands at all times. By forgiving, and trusting God completely, we shield ourselves from this spirit
