Security Sin

First of all, I want to give you a link to a site that offers free online courses to overcome sin habits. The courses are usually 60 days, and the lessons take about a half hour, to an hour. You are given a mentor who has graduated from the same course, and they will help guide you through the course each week. So, if you have a problem with smoking, overeating/eating disorders, pornography, drinking, homosexuality, or you just want to go deeper in God, there are courses for you. I have been through some of them, and they can be a real help in overcoming those destructive habits, that just seem to hang on.

I know this title sounds a bit strange, but the reason that we sin isn't just for the pleasure we think we get, it's also the security we feel knowing that it is there and available for us, should pain come calling. Rachel took idols of her fathers (Laban) and hid them under her saddle even though they worshiped Yahweh, because they were familiar security. Achan took some gold, silver, and a robe, and hid them under the floor of his tent when he wasn't supposed to and his whole family was executed; and Judas Iscariot always had the money bag for the ministry, and helped himself to it. My point is this, sometimes we stash our sin away just for the security of knowing it's there, and available. It's idolatry. These may even include credit cards, or destructive relationships.

The Israelites would usually get rid of most of their idols and shrines, but they would always leave a few high places, prophets or mediums, "just in case". We may not even use the thing we're hiding, but it's the comfort of knowing it's there, and the fear and sense and the danger and emptiness we feel without it that's the problem. The problem is that we are trusting in an object in place of God. We want something we can physically administer at will, to offset pain, and feel in control of our pain relief, and whole life. God wants us to find our security, pain relief, and pleasure through Him, and not through stashed away sin. If you want to walk in God's power and anointing you will have to be willing to let go of these last secret loves of ours and embrace God for what we need.

Just know that even after you "burn" all the idols so to speak, and you are feeling vulnerable and bored, that God will help fill in the void with Himself. You will see in time, that you really didn't need those things as much as you thought. And you will see that their value and importance was greatly exaggerated. Those things may show up later at your window looking forlorn, and tapping on the window to be let back in, usually just when you've had some kind of conflict, or fresh emotional pain. Those things usually just keep you stuck in your pain, they don't heal. God will help and heal you, if you trust Him. This is not condemnation, it's just reality, when we die we face reality, no matter what fantasy we lived in here on earth. satan likes to keep us in a fantasy, God is reality.

This is the most dangerous time in history to be practicing sin right now, because the Lord is returning very soon, and He is returning for a spotless Bride. One of the things Jesus said alot was "Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is near". That is a "now" word; how close can we afford to cut it, before it's too late, and we're trapped in judgment because we played around with it too long? Besides, practicing sin keeps our soul dirty and people can pick up on it, yuk. What you get from the Lord is much better and satisfying than what you thought you got from the sin habit you clung to so fiercely. Know that God loves you, and that He has provided us with alot of different kinds of legal pleasures that can help us through the pain we face.Trust God now, to help you, He will.
