Reasons Why We Get Spiritually Attacked

2CO 2:11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

Sometimes even when we are doing everything right in our Christian lives we may still get spiritually attacked, and it helps to understand why so that we don't get offended with God, and so that we don't give up or get discouraged. Make no mistake, we are in an actual war that involves real beings, we just cannot typically see them because they have the ability to make themselves invisible to us. Below are just a few reasons why we might get spiritually attacked that can help you to understand why it's happening and how to survive and avoid it.

Some reasons for a spiritual attack may include:

1. Unrepented of sin

When we habitually and willfully sin it creates a wall between us and God which allows evil spirits to come and torment us until we do finally and fully repent. Sin unlocks the spiritual door to our soul that allows evil to legally come in and harass us until we repent.

2. Unforgiveness

Jesus said that we had to forgive others in order for our sins to be forgiven, and if we live with unforgiven sin we end up with what I described in point one above. We must forgive everyone that has sinned against us and then just leave them in God's hands to judge.

3. Testing of our faith

Like Jesus, Job, and others, God may at times allow evil to come and test our faith in Him. We must respond though with the truth of God's word like Jesus did, and not sin like Job did. Once we pass the tests though, we are then ready for promotion and God's power.

4. Counterattack after a spiritual victory

This happened many times after the apostles of Jesus day had a spiritual victory like souls being saved, healings, or demons cast out, and it is meant to psychologically create an aversion to us spiritually attacking satan's strongholds, but even this can work for good.

5. Witchcraft from other humans

Witchcraft is not just a bunch of old women with warts chanting around a cauldron, it is one human focusing their spirit or invoking evil spirits to harm or harass another human. It is listed as a work of the flesh in Galatians 5:20. Even Christians can pray witchcraft prayers.

6. Curses from past family sin

Sometimes, especially if our ancestors have been involved in addiction, sexual sin, or the occult, then evil spirits are allowed to some extent to tempt and harass a few of the following generations. But Jesus Christ broke every curse when He died on the cross in our place.

7. Disobedience to God's will

There will be times where we either willfully or ignorantly get out of God's will and we then invite evil to come and to show us that we are off the safe path, and we need to get back on it. Even Jonah learned this lesson when He tried to run away from God's will to go preach.

8. Humility

Paul because of his great spiritual revelations was sent a messenger of satan to help to keep him humble. At times this can come in different forms, but it is only meant to help us not to become prideful. Ask God first where it is coming from though, because this is rare.

COL 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

The main thing that satan wants to accomplish when he spiritually attacks a Christian is just to intimidate and discourage them. He wants them to think that God cannot protect them and to get them to back off from doing anymore damage to his kingdom of darkness. But satan was already defeated at the cross and you don't have to put up with his cowardly attacks. Below is a prayer to pray to help counteract any spiritual warfare that may be being focused your way. This is our day to put on all of our spiritual armor, and to conquer all evil.

"In the name and in the authority granted to me by Jesus Christ, I now command all evil or human spirits to be bound from trying to harm, hinder, harass, or tempt me or anyone else connected to me in any way, shape, or form. I repent of all sin ever committed by me or my family line and I break any and all curses that have rested upon or affected my life in any way. I also command any witchcraft being focused at me from anyone to be reflected back upon the person sending it. I ask Jesus that you would send your Holy Spirit and angels to come and protect me, and to help me to repel all spiritual attacks coming at me right now. Thank you Jesus for giving me the power and authority I need through your name and shed blood to counteract all forms of evil. In Jesus name I ask and pray all these things, amen."

LK 10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

EPH 6:11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

GAL 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."
