Pharisee Identification Guide

AC 9:5 "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied.

Below is just a kind of pharisee identification reference guide to help you to spot a modern day pharisee more quickly and easily. The reason that this guide is necessary is because most pharisees look like genuine Christians at first glance. But try to remember that even though you do identify a pharisee, that Saul was once a pharisee and Jesus turned him into a fisherman and Spirit-filled preacher in just a few days. We all have a bit of pharisee in us in certain areas, so it can also help us to clean up our pharisaical quirks as well. Now the list.

Typical modern day pharisees:

1. Love titles like Pastor, Reverend, Prophet, Father, a college degree title, or whatever else gives other people the impression that they know it all, you don't, and that they should never be questioned in an argument because after all, they have an important title, and you don't.

2. Attack and continually criticize any ministry that has the power of God flowing through it for healing, miracles, the prophetic, or casting out of evil spirits. They try to attribute all the miracles to the demonic, and call the empowered person and their ministry all counterfeit.

3. Try to twist everything an empowered person says and does in order to trap them in their words or actions to hopefully discredit them and get other impressionable Christians to think that the empowered person is apostate, heretical, fake, and should be avoided at all costs.

4. Make heroes of past empowered revival leaders that have died, but make enemies of ones that are still alive and a threat to their unempowered ministry and image. This gives people the impression that they support revival, but this only applies to past revivals and the dead.

5. Love to be first. They go out of their way to be the most involved and rack up the numbers until they are at the top. They just want to appear as the most spiritual person in the group through greatest involvement. They carry around their worn underlined bibles for all to see.

6. Usually hypocrites. Pharisees usually talk a good holiness game, but if you were to see their home life they are harsh, unloving, legalistic, and controlling toward their families, and they usually secretly practice the very sin they so sharply preach against and condemn.

7. Love to argue about the law and the scriptures with people, but when it comes to actually loving people and helping the poor in secret, it is just too below them. Usually if you were to ask their mate if they were loving and serving, they would say "only if someone is watching".

8. Will try to get the government and police involved to shut you down if they can't. Expect these people to be the very ones that turn you in once the antichrist government outlaws all Jesus empowered preaching and ministry. This may even include close family and friends.

9. Just remember, pharisees always focus on attacking and criticizing other ministers and ministries, while God's fishermen and shepherds focus on catching fish and feeding sheep. If someone is always just trashing others in the name of exposing apostasy, then leave them.

That's about it. You could easily add more to this list, and if you want to learn more just check out MT. 23:13-33 and LK. 11:42-52. If you think that Jesus is soft on this kind of self-righteous garbage, think again. He called the pharisees a den of snakes when everyone else around back then thought they were the most anointed, and most appointed. We all need to get rid of this junk and start loving and serving people as Jesus commanded us to, otherwise our works here will count for nothing, and we could even go to hell in the end like they did.

MT 23:33 "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?
