Should We Expect Someone Else?
When you are in the wilderness, you will invariably run into times where you may question whether or not you have
missed it, or whether you even heard God at all about being in the wilderness. Like John the Baptist in prison sending his
disciples to go ask Jesus if He was really the Christ, or whether they should just expect someone else.
LK 7:20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, "John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, `Are you the
one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"
We all hit rough spots in the wilderness where doubt and depression come knocking at the door of our
hearts to question whether we are off course, or whether we just imagined that God wanted us to live this crazy life of the
wilderness in the first place. You may not even get a resounding "yes" from heaven when you pray about the matter. You may
feel just as alone and abandoned as John did in his time of suffering and trial in prison. This is a time when you must trust
God and just stand in faith, as you have had to do so many times in the past. Like I have heard it said, "When you can't trace
His hand, trust His heart." Or, "When you suffer in darkness, remember what you learned in the light".
Think about this, if you were really that far off course and delusional, don't you think that God
would have broken in at some point over the years and told you that you had taken a wrong turn? Of course He would have, and
you are very likely not off course, your faith is just being tested and deepened. You see, God just wants our faith to rest
on our trust in His goodness and character, and not on the circumstances or feelings that we either have, or don't have during
this difficult time of training and transformation. And if and when God wants to talk to you about it, you may get an answer
similar to what John got:
LK 7:21-23 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave
sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, "Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard:
The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good
news is preached to the poor. 23 Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me."
Try to think back on all that God has done for you, the miracles He performed to save you, the times
He healed you or paid your rent miraculously, and all He has done to take care of you throughout this long wilderness time.
Like I say, there is no way you could have gotten into this kind of life by accident. It takes careful planning and many restrictions
put in place, to care for and keep someone in the wilderness. Your time of revival and blessing will come if you don't
give up. You can get through this. Just remember that God only leads people into the wilderness that He knows can make it
through it to the other side. God has not forgotten you, and the best thing that you can do is just concentrate on accomplishing
whatever He wants to change in you that has been keeping you from going forward. These apparently little things that you are
currently working on right now, can become big problems later on if not corrected back here. You will make it through
this, so hang on my friend and know that your redemption from all this draws near.
