Attacking Ourselves

When I was in the army, we were out living in the woods playing war games this one time, and we were told that the green beret were going to attack us in the middle of the night as a training exercise. We had a pretty tough unit, but we were not looking forward to being attacked by these other crack troops so we were paranoid night after night and we hardly slept in anticipation of the coming attack. On the last night of being out in the woods we knew that this had to be the night they would come to attack us so we were doubly ready. Sure enough, in the wee hours of the morning, a ruckus broke out in the camp and it sounded like world war 3 had just begun. We were all grappling in the dark with our attackers when I heard a blood curdling scream, so I grabbed a flashlight and pointed it in the direction of the scream. I saw an older sergeant being choked and pummeled by someone and just as I was ready to jump on his attackers back I noticed it was someone else from my own unit attacking him! Apparently these two guys were sleeping right next to each other, but when the noise broke out they mistook each other for the enemy in the darkness. As a matter of fact, we were all attacking each other and the enemy wasn't even there! Our own noise and fear had started the attack and because there was not enough light in the camp, none of us could distinguish friend from foe.

For quite some time now I have been hearing rumblings and rumors in the Christian camp about civil war and how certain people or old movements are our enemy, when in fact it seems that we have taken our eyes completely off of the real enemy, and we have now resorted to attacking eachother in place of the enemy. The rift and division between those who are in a church and those who are out, those who are in the wilderness and those who are not, those who are part of the old prophetic movement and those who are part of the new prophetic movement, those who are Spirit-filled and those who are not, those who like this minister or church and those who oppose them, has grown and grown and now in the darkness we are not really sure who is the real enemy anymore. The last I checked, we were all wearing the same uniform and we are supposed to be fighting on the same side against a common enemy which is satan, and those who support satan's agenda. It appears that we have allowed ourselves to become distracted from the real enemy, and we have made each other the enemy in his place.

I think it would serve us all well to allow some Light to come in and show us the truth about who is really our friend and foe in this fight, rather than blindly attacking each other in the darkness. We have become paranoid and suspicious of anyone who we think may be slightly different than us and I think we need the Holy Spirit to give us some clarity and revelation about how He wants us to proceed forward and relate to each other. Like Jesus said, a house divided against itself cannot stand, yet the rift and division between us becomes greater by the day. I can understand Christ and satan being divided, I can even understand the pharisees and the fishermen being divided, but I think before we divide ourselves from those who are supposed to be in the same army as us, we need to have the Commander come and tell us that this is in fact the case. There are different divisions in the military that do different things in a battle, so I think we must be careful to not call something the enemy, just because it is different from us. It is time for us all to step over to the Lord's side, and let the Lord deal with those who will not.

What are your thoughts on this?

LK 11:17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall.

1CO 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ." 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul?
