The Real Purpose of Prosperity

Most of us who have been in the wilderness have learned to live by faith, and on God's daily manna of financial and material provision. We have learned that we don't need a lot of the junk that the world chases after and that God really can be trusted to give us what we actually need to live. We have learned that "things" and the pursuit of financial and material wealth is a trap and a distraction, so we are usually fairly balanced in this area by now. Most of us are honest, humble men and women of God who have learned to give to the Lord and to the needy as the Holy Spirit directs us to. Because of that God wants to bring an increase in our income because He wants us to have more to give. God wants to help the world through people that are dead to greed, and who can carry His love and heart to meet the needs of the needy within a city.

LK 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

MT 7:9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

LK 12:32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Now on the other end of the spectrum, we have some preachers that treat God like a bank machine and they manipulate (swindle) people into giving their money to them with the promise that God will prosper them if they do. Their motive is pure greed and what they do is most evil and despicable in God's eyes. Because of this, the Pharisees have tried to turn all teaching about prospering financially and reciprocity into some kind of con-artist ploy. But once again we have to keep the baby, and just throw out the demons and lies with the bath water. We need to have proper teaching on this subject so that we can receive all that God wants to give us by faith to help finance this last revival, and to meet the needs of the needy with it. It is not a sin to have money; it is a sin to be greedy, selfish, and self-indulgent. We just have to go through the wilderness first though to get our priorities straightened out, in order to change our heart.

MT 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

PR 10:22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

God does want us to have all that we need to do His work and to help others with, but He doesn't want money or things to be a hindrance, distraction, or idol to us. The world always misquotes this scripture when they say, "Money is the root of all evil" when in fact it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. We need money to live and to buy the things we need. God wants us to have more than enough to live and to give to others, but He needs us to mature enough first where our love and walk with Him will not be damaged by adding things that would pull us away from Him. You don't throw your car keys to your toddler and neither does God, but when your child reaches adolescence and shows responsibility, you are willing and desiring to do all that you can to bless them and help them in their adult life. Some people try to sidestep the growth work though, and turn Christianity into a money scamming operation. This is very sad.

1TI 6:9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

TIT 1:10 For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. (Pharisees who became Christians)11 They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach--and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

2PE 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

MT 7:15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

So you see, this whole greed and money scamming thing is nothing new, it has been going on for some time now. But we must not make the mistake of labeling everyone that teaches that if you are obedient to God's financial principles of reciprocity, that they are heretics. Just because some people have learned to be obedient to the Holy Spirit’s leading about who they should give to, they should not be persecuted because God is using and blessing them. Most of this spiritual manipulation comes from the pulpit because pastors push the sheep to give to keep the religious machine going, all the while the poor and needy of their city are ignored. God is done financing people or religious institutions that are just feeding themselves and ignoring the poor of their city. He is looking for obedient givers that will give exactly what He tells them to, and to exactly whom He tells them to give to. Ironically, it was the original Pharisees who were always pointing their fingers at everyone, while at the same time they scheming to cheat people out of their money.

MT 23:25 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

1TI 6:3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

Pharisees love to argue about doctrine, but their motive is usually to dominate, control, and eventually exploit. It will never take long for a Pharisee to ask about your finances, and where they go.

MT 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

AC 5:17 Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. 20 "Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people the full message of this new life."

In the coming days, you will be experiencing post-wilderness restoration where God is going to begin to open up new avenues of financial blessing to help to restore you and to make you a channel of resources for this revival, and to give to the poor. This world is about to experience a severe economic downturn and they will look to God and to us to help them. The Holy Spirit will tap you on the shoulder and tell you what to do with what He gives you. Freely you will receive, so freely give. You will be persecuted by the modern day Pharisees who will be jealous of God's apparent blessing upon you, because they will be angry that He is not blessing them too. They will do everything they can to discredit you, but you must not allow it to distract you from this harvest. Your job is to just do what God tells you to do in this revival. He is the Lord of the harvest, so allow Him to make you a modern day Joseph to manage His storehouse of provision for the needy of this world. God wants to draw people to Himself by helping to meet their needs.

MT 5:42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

AC 4:32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34 There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.

PHP 4:14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again when I was in need. 17 Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking for what may be credited to your account. 18 I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
