Health, and Health Care in the Wilderness
Another difficult and perplexing phenomena in the wilderness, is experiencing strange health problems never experienced
before, and the seeming lack of normal medical care or finances you need to treat them. This may, or may not affect you, but
if you are going through this I want to encourage you today that God is with you, and does care very much about what's happening
to you right now. Your sin has not caused this, God just wants to help you to overcome your fears concerning experiencing
certain health problems. He will also help you to come into a deeper place of faith in order to trust Him for healing, or
to trust Him even if you don't get healed for a while. God's focus here is on faith and on overcoming the fears that have
kept us bound. Plus building faith for your own healings will also provide a deeper foundation of faith for
when you are empowered to pray go and pray for others to be healed.
Many of us are used to having regular health and dental care, and the idea of not having it can bring out some
of our worst fears. "What if my looks are harmed, what if I lose a tooth, what if I'm disabled and can't work, what if my
children get sick, or what if we die?" You may get a big case of the "What if's", more than once. We don't realize how much
doubt exists in our hearts until we can't fix our own problems and we are then forced to trust God for real to give us the
help that we need. It may seem like you get more serious health problems in the wilderness, and maybe you do, but also this
may be the first time you are facing these kinds of problems without health care, so they may just seem bigger and
more scary than usual.
If you carry a lot of security and self worth in your looks and beauty, then it is possible you may face a problem
that will seemingly decrease that beauty. The fear of man, and our need for man's constant approval, is a big idol in most
of our lives. If this happens to you, just try to remember that God is not trying to be mean to you; He is just allowing your
self-worth and beauty to come from Him alone, rather than in how beautiful or nice looking we are. Like Job, God can either
prevent or allow whatever situations to occur in our lives that force us to face our fears, and to topple our most precious
idols. This is all about coming into, and developing true faith in Him. He wants you to see that you are complete in Him.
He will also lead you into a place where you must trust Him to heal your body in a very real way. He, and those
He sends, will be your only avenue of help in the wilderness. If you are really in the wilderness, then you probably already
know what I'm talking about. The wilderness is as real as it gets, because there are no more safety nets like their used to
be. Whatever you are facing physically right now, God wants to heal you, and for you to overcome your fears or pride involved
in that particular situation. He may heal you right away, or He may just let you carry the problem for a while until His purposes
are accomplished. Like Naaman the leper, some pride and fear may need to go before you can just believe and be healed.
The Children of Israel in the first wilderness faced these kinds of fears and doubts, especially concerning the
bad things that might happen to them or their children out in the desert (the "What if" syndrome again). They lacked true
faith in God to trust Him even though they had seen God do great things in the past to help and protect them. Doubt may knock
on your door when you do not see an immediate answer to your problem that you can implement yourself. Also, demons may also
try to lie to you in this time of deep trial, and accuse God of being a deadbeat Dad. Listen to this:
NU 14:1 That night all the people of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. 2 All the Israelites
grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, "If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert! 3
Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder.
Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt?" 4 And they said to each other, "We should choose a leader and go back to
Egypt." (Sound familiar?)
I know it seems very easy to judge these people as being faithless and rebellious, but you may find
yourself saying these very same things a few times in your wilderness. You will realize that real faith is only born out of
real need, and from seeing God act on your behalf to help you. There is usually always some evil spirit hanging around trying
to accuse God of child abuse, but like Job, even if you find yourself scraping your sores with pottery, allow yourself to
trust in God's goodness. Remember all the good things He has done for you in the past, and that His motives are always
good. Your health insurance in the wilderness is God Himself, and He will not fail you. Trust Him today, to give you all the
health care that you truly need during your wilderness time.
