Following God's Grace
I want to talk a bit about a very important principle that if you understand it, it can save you a lot of headaches
and heartaches throughout your wilderness experience. It is the principle of following God's grace in everything God has called
you to do. You see; grace has a number of definitions, but the definition that I am speaking of is grace as, "God's ability
or divine enablement upon any activity, relationship or situation". Here is a biblical definition:
2 cor 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having
all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
Grace in its simplest definition, is just "God's help" or endorsement on something. With it, you can
do anything that He wants you to do, because it is His divine ability flowing through you. But without it, you can't accomplish
anything, even with tons of money and talent poured into the endeavor. So basically, you need God's grace to do anything,
and this is what we must look for if we are going to succeed in our time in the wilderness.
In the wilderness, either something has grace, or it doesn't. Whether it's a job, a church you attend,
a relationship, a ministry you serve with, or a place you are living. If there is grace upon it, then it works and flows rather
effortlessly, but if the grace has been pulled away, it is almost impossible to keep that thing alive and bearing any real
fruit. You may have already seen some of this and scratched your head wondering what was going on.
Before you went into the wilderness, there was much more of a general grace over your life that gave
you more of a freedom to make your own decisions, and walk through the world. But, as soon as you entered the wilderness,
now your grace is much more specific in every part of your life. Now, you can only be joined to the very limited choices and
resources that God has placed His grace upon, and if you try to go beyond this then you end up striving in your flesh.
Trying to make something work that has had the grace pulled away, is like trying to do CPR on a body
that is dead and that the spirit left days ago, it's stinks, and it's just a lot of hard work for nothing. But on the other
hand, if you let go of those things, and look for the things that God does have His grace upon, then you enter His rest, and
those things that exist through His power, will live and work because God's Hand is keeping them alive.
You may have already noticed that things which have this grace on them just seem to have an energy
and life to them that make them work and mesh very easily, kind of like a magnet with opposite poles that attract each other.
Conversely, those things without God’s grace on them have a repulsion to them, and are riddled more than usual with
problems, conflict, and setbacks.
So, I want to encourage you today, to ask God to show you what He has placed His grace upon in your
life, and what He has taken it away from, and to tell Him that you surrender your will from now on in all these areas. There
is no point in wasting your time fighting God on something that has no life in it. Like David, he finally accepted that his
first child with Bathsheba would not live, so he let it go. So we also must also let it go if something has no life in it,
and just trust God.
Follow your grace and have fun. God knows exactly what will really bear fruit in your life, and what
will be truly satisfying to you in the long run. In the wilderness, God is usually most interested in attracting you to people,
places, and things, that will help you to grow, heal, repent, learn, and mature as quickly as possible. And He wants to keep
you away from things that hinder or distract His work in your life. He doesn't want you in the wilderness any longer than
is necessary. Trust Him today to lead you forward by His grace.
